My quiet eldest child, isn't she pretty?

The sit-and-spin has a multitude of uses! The neighbors were building a new shed today, and peering through the cracks just wasn't enough for Adam. It's hard to carry on a conversation with the builder with a fence in the way.

Tommy's underwear were wet and he didn't want to sit on them.
This was at my friend's house last Friday. She has 4 kids of her own so she has no problem with the Veihl circus coming to town.

This weekend I finally ripped out the wood edging so I could make the shade garden a hair bigger. I added a white bleeding heart and moved my astilbe around, they were hidden under the big bleeding heart. I thought Amanda would be happy to see that.

Abby and Tommy posing by the butterfly bush. I like to watch for butterflies while I'm doing dishes.

It works!

Somebody doesn't like to participate in group pictures. And this is why we can't get them professionally done.

So I'm blabbing on the phone with my mom around 5pm yesterday, simultaneously making my taco meat... blab blab stir stir... and I look over the counter to see Tommy out on the porch ZONKED out. Soooo cute.

Our yard is complete with "his" and "her" picnic areas. My kids are obsessed with picnics. Even if it is just carrot muffins.

It's that time of year again (a sort-of tutorial)

Everything you wanted to know about the iris borer.

This is unhealthy looking foliage. Obviously. I cringed when I saw this forming. This is my next door neighbor's yard. I love her dearly, but she knows squat about plants. She lets me come over and dig as I see fit. Let's remember that I have 5 children and barely have time to go to the bathroom let alone garden two plots.

Cathy Luter, look away!!
The borers GORGE themselves on the iris tubers. Then they eventually turn into moths and lay their eggs in the old iris leaves in the fall. Then in the spring the cycle starts all over again: they hatch out, make pinhole marks in the leaves and eat their way down to the tubers again. So by late July you have pretty shabby looking plants. Much of the tubers are mush after the borers have tunneled through.

Even Adam doesn't want to touch them, which really tells you how gross and ugly the little demons are. But my kind hearted son wouldn't kill them, he used the knife to flick them into his bug cage. (Don't worry, I'll squish them after he goes to bed tonight. He would probably cry if he watched.)

All the discard really should be burned. Death to the iris borer!!!

Here are the salvaged borer-free pieces. They are soaking in a bucket of bleach water right now. I feel like I should bath in bleach water after touching the things.

Just for Fun

It's a rough life being the baby.

Play Date

We had a play date yesterday with some gals from our MOPS group. We didn't stay long, it's just too hard watching 5 kids going in all directions. Anna loved the park!

Here are Amber and Reese- Amber is 6 1/2 months pregnant and prancing around like it's just another day. If I were ever pregnant again I would hire her to be my personal trainer during the pregnancy.

Adam was more than happy to help our buddy Jackson get a refreshing drink.

Tommy wants in on the action. (Click on the picture to see Tommy's anger up close)

Adam wanted nothing to do with having his picture taken, so Rachel helped out.

The Best Moment of the Day

Adam was measuring the yard with the yardstick.
