Work

I work at a dentist office. And to me it's the best job on earth. I just wanted to share my favorite moment (#1) from today. But I added 2 more so I could make a list. I like lists.

1. My favorite patient today (87 and most of her teeth) asked me, "Do you want to know what my secret is for a long life?" I nodded eagerly. She continued, " I never drank. I never smoked. **long pause** And I never danced, either."

2. Apparently people think it's OK to text while getting their teeth cleaned. Man I hate setting people straight.

3. I still know if you're lying to me about flossing. Don't even try it.

Did anyone else see these colors last night? Wow!

Anna finally signaled that she was ready for bed a few minutes ago. She took 2 really long naps today, so that pushed bedtime back just a bit. She had her immunizations a week ago and they have been taking their toll.

What's Blooming

Adam is pointing at the first Japanese anemone to pop out. This means fall is soooo close. My shoulders just slumped as I typed that.

Tommy poses by another 'Kelvin Floodlight' dahlia. For obvious reasons this has been our favorite bloom all summer- even Tommy's judging by his smile.

Here Rachel sports her current favorite piece of clothing (the hat).

I waited forever for my white phlox 'David' to bloom. Always worth the wait. The purple one has been blooming forever.

Simply the Best

Last week I took the kids for our final round of blueberry picking. Casey was at work. We did alright without dad, but I had to pick twice as fast and frankly I don't like hard labor. Anywho, we went to the Berry Patch for the first time. The ladies working there were wonderful! They Oooo-ed and Ahhhh-ed over my beautiful children and gave them lots of stickers because it was the end of the season. So, we will be back to the Berry Patch next year. I love nice people.

I was sent home with a copy of the Berry Patch Gazette which had several recipes on it, and I have been itching to make blueberry buckle ever since Melissa posted about it last year. So this is the Berry Patch's version of...

Blueberry Buckle

2 1/2 c. blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1/4 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. buttermilk (I always keep that powdered kind handy)

Streusel Topping:
1/4 c. white sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add this to creamed mixture alternating with milk. Fold in blueberries. Pour into greased 9x9 baking dish.
Combine sugars, flour and cinnamon for topping and cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over batter.
Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack.

It was wonderful. Casey said he could eat the whole thing in one sitting. Of course I didn't let him.

We are Never Bored

TV? What? On a summer night? The Veihl children have other ideas, such as let's line up all our junk and see if we can walk on it all the way to mom's garden! Come on, join in the fun.

Headwound Harry found his helmet before he attempted the course.

I later asked Adam if he had made it to the end. He said, "Of course, I'm your son." I'm not sure what to think about that. I guess it means I don't raise no quitters.

We had vacation bible school last week at our church. I helped with snacks and fetched here and there. It was a great week and the kids learned so much.

I bought this chair for $7 at a garage sale, Rachel loves it out on the porch.

Refreshing

Awww, just like her daddy!

Helenium- a happy addition to the Veihl garden

Mmmm Muffins

My neighbor gave me a couple zucchini the other day, so I decided to try a recipe from that Pinch My Salt blog. They were pretty healthy and pretty tasty. Every child liked them, and I even grated the zucchini with the skin ON. They didn't even flinch at the green flecks. Now that's a success.

Here is the recipe!

** Two major blogging accomplishments tonight- I finally figured out how to link something in my blog posting! AND I got a profile pic to work! I had better go to bed now, it can only go downhill from here.

Cake Time

Anna's birthday was great, we pigged out and had cake course. She got lots of cute outfits! I should take some pics of her in her new clothes.

Birthday Girl

I can scarcely believe my baby is one year old today. I thought this special day deserved some fresh pics of my Anna.

Adam and I went to the Farmer's Market today to get some corn for the party tonight. Of course with Adam along we also bought raspberries and peaches. Mmmm, fresh peaches.
Anna kept trying to steal the cobs as we shucked them.

Since I wouldn't let her have any corn she decided to go back to dirt.

Anna's not terribly smiley, so this is the only way I get to see her teeth. I love them.

Pinch My Salt

So I'm sitting here waiting for Casey to get home from work (supper's done, thanks for the suggestion, Pam!) and I stumbled onto this food blog. The pictures, oh my. Beautiful. Everything looks like something I would make. So check out pinchmysalt.com. You won't be disappointed.

This pic is taken from pinch my salt's blog and dedicated to Pam. It's her fave.

Weekend Up North

We spent a rainy Saturday on Mackinac Island sans kids! My wonderful in-laws watched the kids so off we went.

Here is the awesome tandem that we rode around the island. We probably didn't look as cool as Phil and Cathy, but it had to be close.

Amanda probably took all the same flower pics when she was there.

They were scratching each other's backs!

We checked out the light house in Mackinaw City. Not really worth 6 bucks a person, but I got a couple cute pics. :)

After seeing Jackie's blog about the little train in Fairview, we decided it was worth checking out on the way home. Everyone but Tommy liked it (typical), so I'd say it was a success.

Thomas doesn't like loud noises.

Still covering his ears...
