It's a Birthday Party!

Today we went to my brother's to celebrate Luke and Logan turning 4! There was a pirate theme, and the kids had a blast. Jen (Steven's wife) did a great job planning everything. All the kids got treats, and we went on a hayride around the mile. It was naptime, so Abby and Tommy slept through most of that. There is nothing like spending time in the country, especially with the people you love.

You have to like the country to take pictures of silage. Didn't you get any shots of cow chips?

Pam, silage (I don't even know if I'm spelling it right) is chopped corn- the leaves and all- that is feed for the cows. It smells weird, I guess it is fermenting.
Jenny, is that correct?

Silage is fermented plants, usually corn but it can be hay etc. The alcohol from the fermentation preserves it. Some farmers used to actually drink the juice to get a buzz. It also produces gases that can be fatal if you get trapped in a silo. Yes, silos, those tall round things next to barns, used to be the place where it was fermented and stored. Today much of it is processed in large bags on the ground which you may have seen around dairy farms.

During one of our MANY discussions on what we'll name our kids when we finally have some, Jenny originally rejected the name Silas, because it sounded too much like "silage." Your post made me remember that.

ooooooh I like to hear about baby names! When I hear the name Silas I don't ever think about silage. That's just my 2 cents.
