"Don't tell dad I've been chewing on my nails again!"
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a 4 year old to stop chewing on their nails/fingers? The end of his pointer finger literally has a bloody crack on it today. Casey has tried rubbing hot peppers on them. I told him he better not dare do that to Adam's cracked finger. That just seems cruel.

Yeah that would be cruel. Umm I don't know. They sell bitter fingernail polish. I think if he stops chewing on them he will start pull out his eyebrows or something. My cusions kid peeled/picked her sisters toe nails after she was done with hers! Ahh let him pick. Casey picks and yes they get bloody and I yell at him and make him hold my hand so he won't pick esp. in church!
i have some of that yucky polish upstairs, we got it for the just in case moment, will have to check what it is called ! my mom used it for when we needed to stop sucking our thumbs. will get back with name.
Hmmm, I stopped when I got braces, but if you find something else that works maybe I could use it on Dean. :)

I don't know, Hannahdoes it. I have NEVER cut her finger nails. So I'm waiting some good advice too. The Dentist scolded her yesterday, but that only lasted about 20 minutes.
It seems like once they start the habit they have it for life. Well, other than you, Laurie. :)
Adam chewed his finger and toenails down to nothing when he was on prednisone for his kidneys, but after the 6 months of meds was up, so was his nail biting. That was 2 years ago.
I chewed until I was 10 or so and just one day stoped.
My freind who is a 20 something just stopped for no reason.
