It's that time of year again!
This morning we headed out to Russell's to get our blueberries. It's days like this I don't mind my husband's goofy work schedule- it was the perfect morning to go picking. The kids were really good for the most part, and Tommy even used a port-a-potty for the first time. Well, it's better than peeing in your pants he finally decided. We picked about 9 pounds which is plenty for us, the kids really don't eat many of them. Adam is my fruit eater, he'll just eat the innards out of a pie. That's the good part anyway, right?
We opted to pick the tinier berries that were sooooo sweet. It made for more work, but we got the job done.
Rachel and Adam were pickin' fools today! They were so helpful!
Time to go, 50% of the children are unhappy.
This is Rachel's favorite part of the trip- the tire swing.
Daddy and Tommy enjoying a moment together before we pile into the van to head home

lOVE THE PICTURES!!!
I can't get enough of the everyday life pictures. You make the best blueberry muffins. I can almost taste them.
Hope you had fun. You look great!
Where is that blueberry patch? I love love love blueberries and I also love to pick them. Really great pictures of the family.
Aw, I'm jealous! Our patch is closed today for ripening. Boo hoo hoo, it's so gorgeous it WOULD be the perfect day for picking. I'm a greedy blueberry picker - last year I picked 5 pounds and went back later for 15 more. YUM.
I'll have to remember that 50% rule. Cute.
So fun! Growing up in KS I never went berry picking, so I don't even think of going. But it looks like fun. Where is this place that you go?
Becky and Amber- it's on Frost road (Freeland address)

Here are the hours and everything- well worth the trip. The book barn is a hoot, too, but you need to check that out without little kids in tow.
Thanks Kara I will have to check it out maybe on Saturday.
Was russell grumpy when you were there? I hate to be a stick in the mud but... He was grumpy when we were there. That blast of old book smell does not help sell his berrys. I considered sending him a VERY NICE letter about my experience at his shop. I was upset with him b/c he kept pushing his muffins and pies on me. and seemed upset when I passed on them. Do you want any?? do you?? do you??? Is this all your gonna get?? I only had the stamuna (I need a dictionary) to pick two quarts. I did buy 3 that he picked. I really enjoyed myself over all. I would just like to see him clear out that center section and make is more cafe like. I didn't see or smell and pies etc. I will go back my berrys are yummy!
Hey Kara--
I was out there on the 22nd! You missed me by a day. I wish I could've heard you and your family. My entertainment during the 2 hrs I was out picking were the Moms and kids who were talking as if noone else in the world was out there. I kept laughing and laughing! The berries were awesome! I picked 13 1/2 lbs in 2 hrs... my first time and I"d say it was a success.
Sarah, Casey said, "Well, at least we won't lose Adam..."
He never stops talking!
What a nice family outing. Kyle, Liam and I happen to come along a place in Gaylord that have a bunch of deer and elk. They come wright up to the fence.
the kids were feeding them grass, ok so I was too. It was a lot of fun we found it on my birthday. My be we could take the kids there someday or meet you in Gaylord.

How did you get the kids to pick only the small sweet ones? I was happy if Jacob picked ones that were MOSTLY blue. We went there last week - loved it.
Amanda, I didn't think the guy was grumpy. He did ask if we wanted muffins, etc. He even gave Jacob his own bag to carry the (few) berries that he had picked but hadn't yet eaten.
Jackie-that was nice of him. Maybe I was just hot and bothered. Three kids go firgure.
Jackie- Tommy wasn't so helpful, he didn't care what color the berries were.
Amanda- it was hot that week, and I know you don't like hot and muggy.
